Selling 2 Vintage Print Renaissance Artworks from the limited small Gaignieres Portfolio
Both pieces come professionally framed in an ornate gold frame with hanging hardware installed on back.
Both prints have the marking on the front bottom area: "Lanté del Gatine Sculp"
Condition is pristine / excellent.
PREFACE: From the 16th century onwards, series of costume prints were produced showing figures in the dress of different nations and classes. Fashion prints, or plates, develop out of these, but their purpose was to show the latest in fashion. They were commonly published in monthly or weekly series.

Euriant, the mistress of Gérard de Nevers is shown wearing a medieval costume, seen full-length, turned to left, wearing blue cone-shaped headdress (henin) and red dress.
The story of the beauty Euriant and Gerard de Nevers was related in La Roman de la violette by the poet Gerbert de Montreuil, who was a 13th-century French poet from the north of France. He wrote Le Roman de la violette or Gérard de Nevers, one of the most outstanding medieval poems, famous for its vivid narrative and faithful depiction of contemporary customs. It tells the trials of the unfortunate and innocent Euriant, who becomes an object of public dispute between Gérard de Nevers and Lisiard de Forez, the former taking her defense while the other suggests she is guilty of misconduct by claiming he knows of a violet-shaped mark on her bosom. The story percolated into Shakespeare's Cymbeline via Giovanni Boccaccio, and Carl Maria von Weber's opera Euryanthe. The poem underwent countless adaptations and imitations.

This is a portrait of a servant of Isabeau of Bavaria (Queen of France), enhanced with contemporary watercolor colors. Beautiful format and good engraving quality. The colors bring out the details of this old and period costume. From a miniature in the portfolio of Gaignières.
She was the Lady in waiting to Isabelle of Bavaria, wife of King Charles VI, 1389. She wears a tall conical bonnet with long veil, necklace, and gold dress with high waist and ermine hem, crakows or foals.
Isabella of Bavaria, was also known as Isabella of Wittelsbach-Ingolstadt (High German: Elisabeth von Wittelsbach-Ingolstadt), was born around 1370 in Munich, Duchess of Bavaria-Landshut. She died September 24, 1435 in Paris, Kingdom of France, was Queen of France from July 17, 1385 to October 21, 1422 as the wife of Charles VI.
Coming from the powerful house of Wittelsbach-Ingolstadt, she is the eldest daughter of Duke Stephen III of Bavaria and his wife Taddea Visconti, from a prominent noble family that reigns over the Italian city of Milan. At around fifteen, Isabeau of Bavaria was sent to France to marry King Charles VI, with whom she married a few days after their first meeting.
