Product Details The Eames Walnut Stool (1960) was originally designed for the lobby and executive suites of the Time-Life Building at Rockefeller Center in New York City. Ray took the lead on design, drawing on her sculpture training. Working with blocks of solid walnut, the Eameses used a lathe to sculpt pleasing profiles, similarly to how 1 would be used to make turned legs for chairs and tables. After experimenting with several ideas, the duo chose 3 shapes for the Time-Life lobby to accompany the Eames Executive Chair and large murals by Josef Albers and Fritz Glarner. Crafting each for use as a table or seat – finding just the right curve for the top was crucial to its success – the Eameses were so fond of the design that they used it throughout their Pacific Palisades home.
